Mimi (Mira Locher)

Mira Locher, FAIA, LEED AP


Mimi is a member of the AIA and is a licensed architect in the states of Utah and Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Smith College (1987) and received her Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990. From 1990-1997, she practiced architecture at the firm of Team Zoo / Atelier Mobile in Tokyo, Japan, leading projects ranging in scale and complexity from a rest pavilion on a golf course to residences, a microbrewery and restaurant, and resort hotels. While in Japan, she met and began collaborating with Takayuki Murakami. Since July 2004, she has been teaching fulltime at the College of Architecture + Planning of the University of Utah, while continuing her collaborative work with Takayuki Murakami. Her teaching includes architectural design studios and courses related to Japanese architecture.


Kuma (Takayuki Murakami)

Takayuki Murakami


A licensed architect in Japan, Kuma has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kumamoto Technical University (1987). For ten years, he worked for Team Zoo / Atelier Mobile in Tokyo, Japan, as Project Architect and Manager on a wide range of projects including residences, hotels, golf clubhouses, and commercial buildings. Since moving to Salt Lake City with Mimi Locher in 2004, he has focused fulltime on their collaborative design projects in the United States and Japan.
